I should have read the comments first - this sounded to me like a good way to use up an apple that had been sitting around and was getting wrinkled. It was too good to throw away but past its best. I thought the graininess was because I was using a hand held blender in a jug rather than a more professional machine. Still, a lot healthier than the average milk shake. Yes I used yogurt but I substituted liquid honey for the syrup

Apple smoothies (as well as pear smoothies) will tend to have a grainy texture. It doesn't bother me at all, but if a tablespoon or two of yogurt smooths it out for you, by all means add it! After all, I did add that as one of the health tips! ;-)

The other things is that an older apple can be mealy, and that will definitely translate in the smoothie. Make sure your apples are fresh.

I just made this smoothie, drinking it as we speak. It does taste good, but I would describe the texture as mildly unpleasant. I let it blend for a long time but it's pretty grainy. Maybe with the yogurt idea it would be better. I'm not sure if I would make this again or not but it is really fast and easy. I guess it depends how much you care about the feel of it.
